Currencies

Currency trading is the simultaneous buying and selling of the world’s currencies on a decentralized global market place. As one of the largest and most liquid financial markets in the world, its total average turnover per day is reported to exceed $5 trillion. The currency market is not based in a central location or exchange, so it is open to trade 24 hours a day, five days a week.

Currencies are always traded in currency pairs, for example, EUR/USD. The first currency (EUR) is called the ‘base currency.’ The second currency (USD) is known as the ‘counter currency’. The way currencies are displayed shows us how many units of the counter currency you can buy with one unit of the base currency. This is the exchange rate, or in this example, other words, how many US dollars you can buy for one Euro.

Century Financial is one of the first companies to provide online forex trading in the UAE.

Currency pairs can generally be divided into three groups: major, minor and emerging.

Major

Most of these pairs contain the US dollar as either the base or counter currency. They are the most frequently traded. Major currencies pairs include EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/CAD.

Minor

Currency pairs which do not contain the US dollar are known as minor currency pairs. Examples include EUR/GBP, EUR/CHF, GBP/JPY and CHF/JPY.

Emerging

Also known as exotic pairs, these are made up of a major currency paired with an emerging or small but strong economy. Emerging currency pairs include USD/NOK, USD/HKD and EUR/CZK.

Treasuries

The treasuries market includes government debt instruments such as gilts, bunds, bonds and treasury notes.

We offer prices on over 90 treasuries from across the globe, including both cash and forward products.

Treasury securities comprise a significant segment of the domestic and international bond markets. If bond prices rise there could be a slowdown of general economic activity, while fall in prices could result in rising of interest rates. If we have huge potential on corporate debts, then bonds become more attractive for security.

CFDs

Contracts for Difference (CFDs) are derivative products which enable you to trade on the price movement of underlying financial assets (such as indices, shares and commodities).

A CFDs is an agreement to exchange the difference in the value of an asset from the time the contract is opened until the time of which it is closed. With a CFDs you never actually own the asset or instrument you have chosen to trade, but you can still benefit if the market moves in your favor, or make a loss should the market move against you.
